This is a beautiful book written to aid in the creation of an Advent spiral for walking during the Advent season. Thought to have originated in Scotland, the tradition of Advent Gardens or Spirals has been adapted in Waldorf Schools around the world.
Evergreen boughs are set up in a spiral shape and seasonally decorated. Against the backdrop of quiet seasonal music, participants walk through the spiral, light a candle at the center, and place it along the spiral path on their return to the start. The surrounding space moves from darkness to light. This is a lovely, quiet, way to commemorate the winter season in the company of others, and to remember to carry the light within the dark.
The author includes reflections for the four weeks of Advent themed upon the mineral kingdom, plant kingdom, animal kingdom, and family of human beings, and how to incoporate these reflections into the Advent garden.
*Please note while the tradition of the Advent garden can be non-religious, this book presents a Christ-centered perspective.
