Community Learning Centers (CLCs) provide a new educational opportunity for people wishing to enter Waldorf Teacher Education Programs at Rudolf Steiner College, as well as for those in a community interested in deepening their understanding of Waldorf education and anthroposophy. The curriculum and teaching will be arranged by Rudolf Steiner College. Rudolf Steiner College faculty will present most of the courses.
For those interested in entering Waldorf teacher training, the CLC curriculum will provide the pre-requisites necessary to enroll in: The Summer Teacher Education Program/ Early Childhood and Grades; The Summer High School Teacher Education Program; and the Subject Teacher Education Program. Upon successful completion of one of these three programs, students will receive a Diploma in Waldorf Education recognized by the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America.
The Summer Waldorf Teacher Education Program/Early Childhood and Grades: three-weeks per summer for three summers. (Three years of CLC courses.)
The Summer High School Teacher Education Program: three-weeks per summer for three summers. (Three years of CLC courses.)
The Waldorf Special Subject Teacher Education Program/Grades Handwork: two weeks per summer for three summers, plus a long weekend in February for three years. (Three years of CLC courses.)
The pre-requisites will be offered in the students’ home communities in the sall fnd spring for three years. Fall and spring sessions will fulfill pre-requisite requirements for the following summer. To receive an AWSNA-recognized diploma, students must qualify for, enroll in, and successfully complete one of the Summer Waldorf Teacher Education Programs at Rudolf Steiner College specified above.
Students also have the option of taking the CLC courses in their home communities for personal and family enrichment, preparation for future Waldorf activities, or for other professional venues.
In general, courses offered in the Community Learning Centers will focus on basic anthroposophy and the arts. Courses likely to be given are included in the list that follows. No academic credit is given for these courses, but as detailed, they fulfill pre-requisites for enrollment in the above Waldorf Teacher Education Programs. CLC courses may include:

Each of the three programs addresses the educational theory and philosophy of Waldorf education, child development, and the application and curriculum specific to the program. In addition, students have observation and practice teaching requirements.
The cost of fall and spring CLC sessions is $2400. You may divide this amount into as many parts as there are sessions at your location. However, students intending to enroll in the above programs will need to complete all CLC sessions each year. Program Fees for 2010: Summer Teacher Education/Early Childhood and Grades, $3990; High School, $4990; Special Subject Teachers, $2600. Program fees for 2011 could include a small cost of living increase.
Students may apply for financial aid for the Summer Teacher Education Program /Grades and High School; Summer High School Teacher Education Program; and Special Subject Teacher Education Program. No financial aid is available for the pre-requisite CLC studies in local areas.
Community Learning Centers have already been established in: Anchorage, Alaska; Denver, Colorado; Prescott, AZ; Phoenix, AZ; Reno, NV; Montreal, Canada; Nevada City, California; Fair Oaks, CA; Los Altos, CA and Citrus Heights, California. Others are in process of being initiated. A minimum of ten students is required to establish a Community Learning Center in a particular area.
