DORMITORIES
Academic Year September-May

2010-2011 Dormitory Information and Application (PDF)

Community Life

Rudolf Steiner college students who choose to live on campus can enjoy being near our many campus activities as well as the adjacent American River Parkway for hiking and biking. The dormitories are situated on the south side of the campus near the garden and next to the library.

The people who come to live on campus are a very diverse group–they vary widely in age, and many are international students. All who come bring their many talents to share.

We try to accommodate preferences in our six-bedroom units, for a more gregarious or more contemplative life style. The more information you can give us about your preferences, the better able we are to put groups together that will be compatible. Of course, changes can be made after the fact if needed.

Prospective dorm residents should be prepared for a communal situation where bathrooms and kitchen facilities are shared. In particular, kitchen space is limited. Cooperation is the key!

Renoir and Turner Dormitories

There are eight home units; each unit has six private bedrooms, two shared bathrooms, a living-dining room and a kitchen.

Each dorm resident has a private room with desk, chair, lamp, bed and closet with storage shelves. Two telephone lines are available for activation in each bedroom. Medium speed DSL is available in all units. Every room has independent cooling/heating controls that can be adjusted by the occupant.

Laundry facilities are available on campus. A large Commons Room and a small TV room are often available for student use in the Library building.

Residency in the dorms is available for the September-May academic year. Dorm rooms are then opened for the guests attending the numerous summer classes.

Information on rental fees and payment plans is found in the dormitory information packet, which also includes a sample lease, on the link above. We can take a limited number of families in the student dorms. Please e-mail or call for further information regarding families in the dorm. Fall dorm placement is on a first-come-first-served basis, subject to availability.

Dorm Housing: Short Term and Daily

Short Term Housing Request Form (PDF)

For information & fees:
  • DORM HOUSING - NIGHTLY RENTAL:
During the school year, we sometimes have empty dorm rooms available for nightly rental. The Short-term Housing Request Form may be used to book either nightly dorm housing or housing in a private home.
  • HOUSING IN A PRIVATE HOME:
We have many friendly hosts in the area, who rent their spare bedrooms to us. Some of them are within walking distance (¼-1½ miles) with many more within easy driving distance. Some hosts also offer sleeping bag space.
These rooms are classified as followed:
  • Private room with private bathroom.
  • Private room with shared bathroom: shared with host family or other guests.
  • Sleeping bag space: space to put your sleeping bag, not necessairily private.

We have some capacity for double occupancy–some rooms with two twin beds and many more with queen-size beds. If you are asking for double occupancy, be sure to let us know if you are willing to share a queen-size bed with your roommate. We expect you to find your own roommate; we do not put people together.

SUMMER or FEBRUARY CONFERENCE

If you are looking for accommodations in the dormitories or in private homes during these times, please use the Summer Housing Form or February Conference Housing Form . Please book well in advance, particularly if you will not have transportation here. All rooms within walking distance fill up 6-8 weeks in advance. However, it never hurts to call and ask about space availability, even during busy times, as we sometimes have cancellations. Form available seasonally.

We do not take reservations by phone - you must mail or fax your form to the housing office.

Hotels

For those who wish to stay in a hotel, we have several that offer us a special rate. Please call or e-mail for details.
